Each year, Highland Park hosts a two-day Talent Show. This is a great opportunity to showcase the special talents and skills of our amazing K-5 students. This year’s shows will be Monday, May 18 and Tuesday, May 19 at 1:00pm in the school cafeteria. Participation is optional, and students who would like to participate must audition.
Coordinating acts, props, costumes, and rehearsals is the student's/parent’s responsibility. Students may audition for a solo or group act, but NO practice/planning time will be given during the school day. If in a group, students should only choose those they can practice with OUTSIDE of school. Students should choose something they feel confident in and have experience in. They will need to create a full act (routine) that is approximately 1-3 minutes long. Here are a few examples and ideas of “talents”:
Students interested in performing must audition. Not all students who audition will perform in the show. Only the most prepared acts will be selected to perform in the show. All acts must follow these requirements:
Each student can audition for one or two acts, but not two solo acts.
Groups can have up to ten people, and include Highland students in any grade level.
Acts must be about 1-3 minutes long, and be school appropriate.
Acts must be performed from memory (lyrics, scripts, dance, etc.).
Music must be emailed to Mrs. Rose before auditions (a music file or YouTube link).
For singing acts, the song file must be without vocals (i.e. karaoke/instrumental).
Costumes are not necessary for auditions, but bring any props for your act.
If needed, students can use the school gym mats, a piano, or microphones (we don’t have a wireless headset mic). Any other items needing to be borrowed should be requested ASAP.
Return signed permission form (on the back of this paper) on or before Fri., March 27.
Auditions will be held the second week of April (during the school day).
Students chosen for the show will have one after school rehearsal in May.
If you have any questions about this information, please email me at any time.
Thanks!
